Finally! A New Healthy Snack Bar That Will Not Disappoint You

April 22, 2014

snack-barSnacks are a big deal!

Lifestyles are so busy. There’s no time to cook or prepare healthy foods. You grab whatever is quick and easy.

That Snickers candy bar my husband used to grab occasionally fit the bill. It gave him some quick energy, gave his blood sugar a boost and curbed the hunger pangs he had from not taking time to stop for lunch. I’m sure you’ve never experienced such an event, have you?

Snacks can be beneficial for your health.

  • Help maintain more even energy levels.
  • Help keep a healthier blood sugar level.
  • Help reduce the urge to overeat at regular meal times.
  • Reduce the risk of digestive issues and obesity.
  • Can increase metabolism (combined with proper exercise.)

How many aisles in the traditional grocery store or convenience store are devoted to snack foods? Chips, crackers, cookies and snack bars of all types are there to choose from. Trail mixes and other items filled with chocolate and sugars are sold as health food.

Snack bars are quite popular. They are easy to carry with you and use for that quick fast snack but what is in them? Are they really healthy? Are you ever disappointed?

They sound healthy! Low fat, low carb, high protein, gluten free, dairy free, high energy, low calorie … the list goes on and on. The truth is that many snack bars on the market are full of chemicals, additives, artificial colors, fake fruit, over-roasted nuts and even high-fructose corn syrup.

How do you choose a healthy snack bar?

  • A healthy ratio of protein and fiber will curb hunger and provide a satisfied feeling. An example of a healthy ratio would be 10 grams of protein to 5 grams of fiber.
  • Zero tolerance for trans fats (hydrogenated oils), MSG, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners and preservatives.
  • Real fruits, nuts, seeds and grains with minimum processing provide healthy fats and antioxidants.
  • Low glycemic response to help minimize fat storage and promote fat burning.
  • What do I mean by low glycemic response?  A healthy ratio of protein and carbs to keep your blood sugar level rather than spiking. This gives a longer time of endurance and energy. Total carbs should be no more than 2 ½ times total protein. Those carbs should consist of dietary fiber plus natural unrefined sugar.
  • Last, but not least, a healthy snack bar should taste good.

What is your favorite quick convenient snack?

Always a wealth of information, Pat. There is so much junk in grocery stores now, full of sugars, and chemicals. It's best to shop around the perimeter of the store to avoid being tempted (if you are!). Thanks for the wise coaching!

Hi Norma,

Yes, junk food makes up a huge part of the so called food in grocery stores. Outside alises are mostly where I shop.

Thanks for reading and your supportive comment.

When shopping the grocery store I only shop the outside sections. Fresh fruits, vegetable, dairy, and fresh meats. I tend to shy away from a lot of the pre-packaged items.

They are full of junk! Great post, I did not know about the protein to fiber ratio. That was good to learn. Thank you for sharing this new product. 🙂

I’m with you, Katrina. I only shop the outside aisles of the grocery store and not a lot of that. I do quite a lot of shopping at the local health food store but even stay away from most of their packaged items. I’m glad you found the article helpful.

Give the new NeoLifeBar a try! You can order here.

Keep yourself healthy!

When we were kids, "snacks" used to be something we ate at home, timed between our meals.  And they could be healthy because they could come out of our refrigerators.  Now with the run-run-run lives we lead, "snacks" have become something the food industry has packaged for us … for convenience … sort of one-size-fits-all.  They simply forgot the "healthy" part of the equation.  I'm so glad to see more and more healthy alternatives appearing, and addressing specific needs such as gluten-free and dairy-free.

Hi Sharon,

Yes, things are so different for most people today then they were when we were growing up. Everyone is so on the go all the time. I love this new bar. It is really very tasty and I have complete confidence it is good for me. There are so many different food allergy issues out there it is a challenge to address everyone’s needs but this new bar comes very close.

Thanks.

I'm not especially happy with the selection of snack bars I find on the grocery store shelves and so I appreciate this introduction to a healthier version of snack foods.  Thanks for the info!

Hi Connie,

I was happy to introduce this new snack bar. It sure comes in handy when you don’t have time to cook or prepare a healthy snack. It seems that is quite often for most people.

You can order here.

Stay healthy!

Good to see more Gluten and Dairy free products. My father and niece need both. It is getting easier to find Gluten free but it is still hard to find lactose free.

Hi Heather,

I’m glad we now have this New NeoLifeSnack Bar that is Gluten and Dairy free for people who do have a sensitivity to those products. The problem with many so called gluten free products on the market is that they are not necessarily healthy otherwise. You really have to be careful or you can become malnourished when you start having to eliminate an important food group.

This new bar should be very helpful for your father and niece with these special needs. Let them know about them. NeoLifeSnack Bar

Thanks for your comment,

Is Neolife different from GNLD? How come I hear a lot about this compenent company these days? Is there a breakup of the company going on?

Reply

12 Pat Moon April 25, 2014 at 11:56 am

Hi Victor,

Good question, especially if you have not had a long history with GNLD. GNLD stands for Golden Neo-Life Diamite.

Neo-Life started with the Formula IV (with Tre-en-en) as its only product back in 1958. When I joined Neo-Life in 1985, they had a sister company in European countries called Golden. Neo-Life’s main focus was on nutritional supplements. Golden’s main focus was on personal home cleaning products. The owner of both companies started bringing Golden products to Neo-Life and vice versa. Another nutrition/herbal company called Diamite was also owned by the same owner.. Mr Donald Pickett. He made the decision to bring all 3 companies together under one name. That all happened sometime in the 1990’s, I do not recall exactly when. Neo-Life was the oldest, most established of the 3 companies but neither Golden or Diamite distributors wanted to lose their name so the new name for everyone became Golden Neo-Life Diamite, Intl. That was quite a long name so it was shortened to GNLD.

As an established Neo-Life distributor, I was not happy with that name change and reluntantly had to start saying GNLD instead of Neo-Life. Now about 2 years ago, the new owners decided to bring back the long established NeoLife name because it was one of the oldest and most established nutrition network marketing company in the market place. At this point they are converting all the nutritionals to use the Neo-Life name under the umbrella of GNLD. So far they are calling the skincare products Nutriance and the cleaning products Golden but all are still under the umbrella of GNLD.

No, there is not a breakup of the company. I believe the higher ups realized they made a mistake by changing the NeoLife name for marketing purposes as it was such an established name here in the United States. I believed it was a mistake when they made the change back in the 1990’s but who was I to have an influence? I, personally am happy to have the NeoLife name back but it is once again an awkward transition.

I hope that answers your question at least to some extent. By the way, when Mr. Pickett made the decision to retire, he chose the Brassfield brothers as his successor because of their sound, moral, ethical business background. Now one of the Brassfield brothers has retired and only Jerry Brassfield is considered the owner but I believe he is grooming a successor to take over when he retires. Jerry is real close to me and my husband’s age, about 71. We know him personally and have the utmost respect for him. Mr. Pickett passed away just a few years ago. He was up in his 90’s at the time. We also knew him personally.

GNLD/NeoLife is a great company and we are proud to be affiliated with it since 1985.

Thanks for continuing to visit my blog. I appreciate your support and comments.

I always need a quick snack and usually grab fruit, occasionally I feel like I need more and this looks like a yummy healthy treat 🙂

Hi Gilly,

Fruit is a good quick snack but does have the downside of not having any protein. Adding protein to fruit helps keep your blood sugar level and eliminates the high sugar spike fruit alone gives you. These bars not only taste good but do provide that ‘more’ you feel you need.

NeoLifeSnack Bars are quite yummy along with the healthy.

Hi Norma,

We have had healthy snack bars before in the almost 29 years I’ve been with NeoLife. My favorites were discontinued because they could no longer get the quality ingredients needed so rather than compromise and make a compromised product, it went away. Unfortunately a couple other bars were discontinued because the ingredients did not have a long enough shelf life and they easily became old so again rather than compromise and add perservatives those bar were discontinued. A large amount of time, money, research, testing, etc. went into these New NeoLifeBars so I have great confidence they will be around for quite some time. They really do taste delicious and knowing they are quite healthy with balanced nutrients make them even more attractive.

Thanks for your ‘kudos’!

Hi Gina,

I appauld you for avoiding sugar. That is a very healthy decision. Our NeoLifeBars are sweetened with fruit and it is in proper ratio with the fiber and protein to keep your blood sugar level and help keep your metabolism working. I believe you would enjoy them.

Snacks can be healthy and these bars meet that criteria. Snack healthy!

They do look yummy. What is the protein source Pat? I tried to open the PDF but it was blurry and I couldn't read the ingredients. Thanks 🙂

Reply

22 Pat Moon April 25, 2014 at 10:47 am

Hi Stephanie,

That PDF is blurry but if you enlarge it, it is easier to read. The protein source for the NeoLifeBar is from whole grains (no gluten), seeds, and nuts. Our company has such strict standards for products that it took over a year to develop a bar that met those standards.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your interest.

Thank you for introducing this one! It's true that snacks are really getting low on nutrition these days and knowing there's an altertive for fruits and vegies is another good news! 🙂

26 Pat Moon April 25, 2014 at 10:33 am

Hi Pamela,

Fruits & veggies are great choices for snacks as well as nuts for some protein but a snack bar that has it all is a refreshing change and more convenient to pack with you than fruits & veggies that need to be kept cool.

Healthy snacking to you!

Hi Caroline,

You are right, its not easy to find a healthy, tasty snack bar. The stores are loaded with them in the aisles and also at the checkout stands for the impluse buyer. That is a good reason to get some of these new NeoLifeBars and carry one in your purse. You’ll be less likely to be tempted by the unhealthy ones in the markets.

Snack healthy always!

Hi Alexandra,

You explained exactly the reason I do not keep unhealthy snack foods in the house.. it is difficult to not induldge when they are in front of you. And then, yes, afterwards I realize all that sugar, etc. gave me a headache and zapped my energy. In those cases, I try to just eat a small amount if I can’t resist altogether. These new bar are really delicious and a good healthy alternative..

Snack healthy!

Hi Meryl,

You are so right. It is important to plan ahead and have healthy options for snacks. What we eat is so reflective of our total health.. even of the way we think. I know you are very aware of how too much sugar, etc. affects the human mind. Its really like a drug.

Take care & stay healthy,

Hi Meire,

Yes, it is difficult to chose a healthy snack bar so its good to have some basic guidelines when faced with so many choices. Now that we (NeoLife) has a healthy choice I won’t have to be spending that time in the store reading labels and trying to make a healthy choice. All I will need to do is keep a supply on hand to grab as I rush out the door. It seems we’re always in a hurry.. life gets so crazy busy.

Don’t hesitate to give our New snack bar a try.

Hi Roslyn,

Good job in checking out those labels! Its too bad we need to be so dedicated to label reading but that’s the way it is when they start making changes to our natural food supply.

I’m very thankful for this new bar because I’ve had a difficult time finding a really healthy tasty bar that I can carry with me. Especially in the summer months many bars get too soft or if they have chocolate really messy. This one should be good even in the summer heat.

Give our bar a try some time soon.

Yes, it would be wonderful if your teenager would eat healthy. They do not realize just how damaging a lot of the snack foods are as far as their long term health. As parents, we mainly have to set a good example and have healthy options available for them to eat.

Nice to have you stop by for a brief chat.
