What is Healthy About A Shape?

December 30, 2011

What kind of shape is your health? The shape of your health determines the shape of your life.
Christmas was quiet at our house. All three of our children and their families celebrated at their respective homes. The shape of the distance between their homes and the shape of their lifestyles do not usually allow them to get together for holidays. That means the shape of our lives affects where and how we spent Christmas.
Our daughter, son-in-law, and 2 oldest grandchildren live 4 hours from our California home where we needed to be this year because of the shape of needed maintenance. The shape of our daughter’s life is that they must be at their home for Christmas as her husband is the pastor of a church who always has a Christmas Eve candle light service and our daughter is in charge of the music program. Of course, this year, they had to be there on Christmas Day for Sunday services.
They arrived at our house for after Christmas family time with a very strange shaped gift. Instructions for us were to guess what was in the package. It was difficult because the shape did not make much sense. We could not only see the general shape but could also feel it although they told us to be careful not to break it. Some things we suggested were: a model airplane, a bird, something that flies. Actually we did pretty well; we were actually in the ball park!
Keep reading to learn what we received.
Shapes definitely have an effect on us.
How often do you say, “I’ve got to get the house in shape before company arrives”? After all you would not want company to walk into an out of shape house. An out of shape house will have a different meaning to different people at different times. It may mean a messy house filled with clutter. It may mean it is dirty and needs a deep cleaning. Or it may just need a few minutes of tidying up.
Our daughter and family also brought a box of mixed chocolates. Who can resist this time of the year!  I go for the caramels but how can you tell? My secret is the shape. Sometimes the shape is deceiving and I am a little disappointed. This particular box of chocolates has been true to me. The 2 pieces I have chosen were caramel. Yummy!
What kind of shape is your health? Again, the shape of your health means different things to different people.
Does the shape of your health allow you to take a mountain hike with your family?
Does the shape of your health prevent you from doing regular exercise so you can get in shape?
Does the shape of your health leave you energized and able to think clearly and shape your life?
Does the shape of your health help keep you disease free?
Does the shape of your health allow you to wear your favorite clothes comfortably?
My husband, son-in-law, and grandson just came in with another load of wood for the wood stove. They had to be in good shape to be able to use the chain saw, load the wood in the tractor bucket, split the wood, and stack the wood so it is ready to keep us warm. Our wood pile is in good shape once again!

Oh, I just about forgot to tell you what was in the strange shaped gift! A clever hand-made flying swan mobile made by a church member and sold at our daughter’s church bazaar.
Shape up to a New You!

What a great article Pat! Funny how a word can be used so frequently without giving it much thought! Love your strangely shaped gift! Church sales always offer such unique gifts!

Yes, Denny, as I was writing I realized how many times we use ‘shape’ in our lives. It can apply to so much!

Hi Elvie, the odd shaped gift was intriguing and we loved it when we opened it. We will be hanging it in our log house in NM. It will fit in perfectly!

Love hearing Christmas stories Pat. Thanks for sharing yours. Also, I love those birds. They are so much fun to just watch as they gently flap their wings in the breeze. Happy New Year!

Thanks for the comment, Michele. Yes, that swan is neat. At this point we have not decided where to hang it but are thinking we will take it to our log house in NM. It has several places it will fit. What was also special is that my husband has met and become friends with the man who made it.

Pat, thank you for sharing your Christmas story with us! Christmas was a busy time for our family and I must say that I didn't eat a lot of sweets this year 🙂 I also love Zumba – great workout. Happy New Year to you and your family!

Anastasiya, I’m proud of you that you didn’t eat lots of sweets. Actually I didn’t eat as many as I normally do so I did pretty well. What is Zumba? It sounds like a dance? … or is it an exercise? Let me know, I am always interested in fun ways to be active.
